Working with Sample Data
When you first start with Rentablez, your account is empty. While this gives you a clean slate, it can be helpful to work with “Sample Data” to understand how features connect before you enter real business information.
Rentablez does not automatically populate your account with fake data, but you can easily create a “Sandbox” environment for yourself.
Why Use Sample Data?
Creating a few test records allows you to:
- Practice workflows: Try creating an order, fulfilling it, and returning it without fear of making mistakes.
- Test printouts: Generate invoices and quotes to see how they look with your logo.
- Train staff: Let new team members play with test orders before handling real customers.
Creating Your Test Set
We recommend creating the following “Dummy” records to fully test the system:
1. One Test Customer
Create a customer profile that you can use for all your test bookings.
- Name: “John Doe (Test)” or “Sample Customer”
- Email: Your own secondary email (so you can see what emails customers receive).
2. Two Test Assets
Create two different items to see how they behave on orders.
- Item A: A simple Item (e.g., “Test Camera”). See Managing Regular Assets.
- Item B: A bulk Item (e.g., “Test Cable” with quantity 10). See Managing Bulk Assets.
3. One Test Order
Create an order using the customer and assets above. Use this order to practice:
Cleaning Up
Once you are comfortable with the system, you should delete your sample data to keep your reports accurate.
- Delete Orders First: Go to Orders, select your test order, and delete/archive it. You cannot delete assets or customers if they are linked to active orders.
- Delete Assets & Customers: Navigate to the respective pages, find your test records, and delete them.
Always mark your test records with “(TEST)” in the name so you don’t confuse them with real data later.
